Spring is finally here, and that means it’s time to refresh your April budget!
With warmer weather, holidays, and seasonal changes, your budget might look a little different than the last few months — and that’s okay.
Planning ahead for these shifts will help you stay on track financially while still enjoying everything this new season has to offer. Let’s dive into five key things you won’t want to forget when setting up your budget this month.
Travel
Whether you are traveling during spring break or making plans for the summer, consider all your vacation expenses. This will include accommodations, food, entertainment, transportation and any other travel essentials.
We went on our first family beach vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC in April 2023. The kids loved playing in the sand and sun. And even though we had a hotel right on the water, it was a pretty economical vacation.

Tax Services and Fees
Tax day is April 15, 2025. I am a self proclaimed procrastinator but one thing we don’t wait on is completing our taxes. We already completed ours using TurboTax but I know that isn’t always the case for everyone
If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, do it before April 15th. Plan for filing fees and accounting fees.
You can also save 20% on federal filing fees if you file with Turbo Tax using my referral code (new customers).
Spring Photos
With the extra sunshine, spring is a great time to freshen up those family photos or have spring school photos done. If your favorite photographer does outdoor shots then I’m sure they are itching to get outside just as much as you are! Keep a look out for their announcements for spring photos. These may also include Mother’s Day photo shoots.
April might also be a time for dance photos before the recitals (like it is for us).

Lawn Care and Garden Supplies
Does your lawn need a little TLC after a long winter? Or maybe some spring outdoor projects? We have a “Home Improvement” category in our budget.
My husband can’t wait until the weather starts to get warmer so he can get outside. We built our house in 2016 and moved in the winter 2017 so our lawn was vary bare and muddy then. Each year we are adding something to the landscape.
Summer Activities
Church camps, sports camps, swim lessons, summer camp…if your kid is into various summer activities then April may be a time for registration (if it hasn’t happened already).
In addition to registration, your athletes might need new gear.
